ひとつの場所を、三つの視点から。人の目とは限らない。

I make images about looking and the trouble with wanting.

Three Views is an ongoing series. Each scene takes an ordinary working place in Japan — a car repair shop, a supermarket, a ferry’s car deck, a fish market — at a moment when its routine is shifting, and places one young woman there. She has no name and no story; she does not perform. The place stays fixed and only the viewpoint changes, three times.

「Three Views」は進行中の連作です。日本のありふれた仕事の場所——自動車整備工場、スーパーマーケット、フェリーの車両甲板、魚市場——を、いつもの流れが切り替わる瞬間にとらえ、そこにひとりの若い女性を置きます。彼女には名前も物語もなく、何も演じません。場所は動かず、視点だけが三度変わります。

Fish Market2026

魚市場

  • A tuna auction hall under fluorescent light. Buyers in dark work clothes and name-tagged caps stand in a ring around frozen tuna laid on the wet floor, one raising a hand toward the auctioneer on his stand. At a concrete pillar behind them, a young woman in a dark cropped jacket and a long blue satin skirt waits with her hands folded, outside the trade.

  • Seen from the bed of a cart, over strapped-down frozen tuna with red name tags. The auction hall recedes behind: workers walk away across the wet floor, another cart carries fish off, and the young woman in the blue skirt still stands by the pillar, small in the distance.

Ferry2026

フェリー

  • The car deck of a ferry, wet floor shining under a car’s headlights from outside the frame. A young woman with a high dark ponytail, in a dark cropped zip jacket, a long blue satin skirt and heeled boots, a pale bag on her shoulder, has stopped mid-step and looks to one side. Supermarket2026

スーパーマーケット

  • A long supermarket aisle under bright fluorescent light, packaged food stacked on both sides under Japanese shelf signs. A young woman with a high dark ponytail, in a charcoal halter waistcoat that leaves her midriff bare, wide charcoal trousers and pointed black shoes, walks toward the camera holding a black shopping basket, her eyes turned to the shelves. A clerk in a green apron crouches beside a cart of cardboard boxes, restocking; at the far end, staff stand behind the prepared foods counter.

  • A round convex security mirror mounted on a pillar near the ceiling of the supermarket. In its curved reflection, the same woman walks down the aisle with her basket while the clerk restocks behind her. Below the mirror, out of focus, checkout lane numbers and the tops of shelves.

  • Looking down from high at the back of the store, over the prepared foods counter with its trays and price cards and the cap of a staff member below. Across the floor the woman walks up the wide aisle between two roll cages of boxes, basket in hand, among a few other shoppers; the checkouts and entrance are bright in the far distance.

  • Seen through the glass wall of a car repair shop’s waiting room.
